They begin school with the presence of a parent/caregiver in the classroom. As the children become more comfortable in their surroundings, our nurturing teachers help them ask for what they need and want; thereby encouraging and supporting each child’s emerging self. A toddler’s daily classroom experience is filled with stimulating materials, such as blocks, puzzles, paints, clay, and water play, in addition to group activities that include pets, snack, stories, gym, and songs. Parents and caregivers have the opportunity, firsthand, to learn about child development so that they may help their children through the varied ages and stages.

Teachers provide both open-ended materials and guided activities that encourage creativity and thinking, and opportunities for young children to make sense of their internal and external world. At Studio, children learn to work alone, and in small and larger groups, as they are helped to put their thoughts, feelings, and ideas into words, developing and expanding their social-emotional, language, and cognitive skills.

As elementary age children develop and expand their knowledge, their interpretations of their surroundings deepen over time. Throughout the day, children have many opportunities to develop the skills and concepts necessary to work with open-ended questions that do not have easy solutions. Our teachers provide each child with specific tools, materials, and experiences in all subject areas so they may confidently approach their learning and apply creative thinking skills, along with solid work habits, in productive and meaningful ways.

Through our interdisciplinary curricula, the children learn to take responsibility for themselves and their work, become self-evaluative, pursue research, and can effectively work individually and in a group. Middle schoolers benefit greatly from discussions where they can articulate their thoughts and feelings, having a healthy exchange of ideas.
