Our youngest class is called the Dewdrops. We designed the environment, the schedule, and curriculum to make this the premier one year old program in the area. The children drink out of sippy cups, take one nap and must be walking for their safety.

In the 2-year old class, our goal is for a positive experience at school. This is a time when children often learn how to separate from their parents for the first time and bond with teachers. Children make friends and start interactive play. We feel this solid foundation will foster a love of learning throughout the child’s future. In a nurturing, trusting environment, the children learn to use materials, follow directions, and make choices, while learning cooperatively with others. When children feel safe they take risks in their learning. It is important to work on all areas of development to support the whole child. We foster the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child at their own level. Our goal is to make all students feel good about themselves, and acquire the self-help skills needed to work independently.

Children must be potty trained for this class During your child’s year in The Stargazer class they will become increasingly independent. They will develop a heightened sense of self awareness and empathy towards others as they develop social skills and learn how to function in a group. Teachers will work with the children to teach them problem solving skills. The children learn to take responsibility for their actions. They will also learn to listen to their friends. We see an increase in their feelings of self confidence and increased competency as a result of learning these new skills. We want children to enjoy school in a safe, nurturing atmosphere so that they will feel safe to take risks in all areas of development.

Children must be potty trained for this class In the Sunshiner classroom, we help to prepare children for Kindergarten by supporting their development both academically and socially while having a lot of fun. We provide a wide variety of materials at different levels of difficulty so children can balance both, a sense of mastery at tasks they can complete easily, and also challenge themselves with new more complex tasks. We believe that children need to feel safe and secure in order to learn and flourish in a rich environment full of opportunities to grow and develop their skills for life. Consequently, social skills and independence are an important part of our curriculum. We balance teacher-directed and child-initiated activities to help children learn to follow directions, as well as, guide their own learning. We assess children’s skills upon their arrival in our classroom and provide appropriate materials and experiences to lead them to the next level of learning.
