Drawing off of a Montessori inspired model, children engage in lessons and activities that promote physical and emotional independence. A calm and peaceful environment allows children to explore concepts related to practical life and self-care, sensorial and pre-math, pre-language, and monthly project-based themed units. Lessons are sequenced to meet both age appropriate and individual needs in addition to developmental milestones.

IMA’s Early Preschool classrooms are a stepping stone for language immersion. Children first become comfortable within a multilingual classroom environment. As their verbal language skills develop, children are encouraged to first, follow directions and then, engage in age-appropriate lessons in both English and the secondary language(s) of the classroom. With growth and development, IMA Early Preschool children begin to confidently engage as their vocabulary expands.

Children who are 3 by September 1 enroll into one of IMA’s preschool or “Primary” classrooms. These classrooms are multi-age classrooms that foster the development of a world language while working towards age appropriate social, emotional and academic milestones.

Specialist opportunities relating to physical education, music and movement and art are also integrated into the weekly schedule. Lessons are sequenced to meet both age appropriate and individual needs. Children work toward foundational academic skills in preparation for Kindergarten.

Please note that our staff sign up based on their summer availability and may or may not be present every week of the summer. Summer programs continue to promote a language immersion environment; however, this is flexible during the summer months, and not all languages can be guaranteed each week. IMA does not offer any full immersion models over the summer. Summer programming is primarily English programming.

Here at IMA, we believe that in order to learn a second or third language student must use it in a meaningful, natural environment. Balancing passion with purposeful engagements, learning takes place in both English and Mandarin. Core subject instruction takes place in English. Students then attend a 90-minute block of Chinese Language Arts instruction each day. Cultivating bilingualism, students are immersed in a dual-language environment where they receive instruction in small group and individual settings. Individual learning plans are established to meet the differentiated needs of native and non-native speakers.
